In Vyktory, education is in five stages, the last of which is optional. They are as follows. - Preschool - Ages 4-5
- Junior School - Prep, Grades 1-5 - Ages 5-12
- Middle School - Grades 6-8 - Ages 12-15
- High School - Grades 9-12 - Ages 15-19
- University or Vocational (Undergrad, Postgrad, etc)
As labor laws mandate a person be at least 16 before seeking full time work, a middle school education is the most basic requirement for a full-time job. Children can take up small casual work from the age of 12 and may take on part-time work from the age of 14. This is reduced to 8 years old for casual work in the case of a family owned business. All education, including tuition, materials, equipment and excursions are free for all, funded by taxation. The fact that it has been that way for at least a hundred years means that Vyktory's literacy rate is 100%, and is among the most generally well educated on Micras. More than 90% of students who finish Middle School go on to start High School. Of those, 80% graduate, while 60% of graduates move onto either University or Vocational education.
